The 4-cylinder was coupled to either a five-speed manual transmission, shared with the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Eagle Talon, or a 4-speed automatic. The Avenger has returned for 2008 as a sedan to replace the aging Dodge Stratus, whose coupe version had replaced the original Avenger in 2001.
